Classic Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or your choice)
- 2-3 slices of ham
- 1-2 slices of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite)
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread: Spread the mayonnaise evenly on one side of each slice of bread. If you like mustard, spread it on one slice of bread over the mayonnaise.
- Add the Ham and Cheese: Place the ham slices on one of the bread slices. Layer the cheese slices on top of the ham.
- Add the Vegetables: Place the lettuce leaves and tomato slices on top of the cheese. Season with a little salt and pepper if desired.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place the second slice of bread on top, mayonnaise side down.
- Slice and Serve: Cut the sandwich in half diagonally, if desired, and serve immediately.
Variations:
- Turkey and Avocado Sandwich: Substitute the ham with turkey slices and add avocado slices.
- Grilled Cheese Sandwich: Use only cheese and grill the sandwich in a skillet with butter until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Veggie Sandwich: Skip the meat and add more vegetables like cucumber, bell peppers, and sprouts.
